Some Themes and potential of the story

I thought the idea of family that was brought up in the previous post was a rather good idea. Firstly, it is a congenial topic- any every reader could almost relate to instantly, moreover- it brings about the question of family ties and relationships (love) into play.

But before we go on with plot details to flesh out the story, lets choose some general themes for us to outline the plot first. From our characters and plots insofar, we have gathered a few very interesting and insightful themes:

Jake- the theme of materialism, superficiality, power and status, glamour, popularity among peers, success and achievement; and individuality.

Dejengski- themes of idealism, love (and the lack of it), bullying, expectations of parents, neuroticism, narcissism (I am the centre of the world, and everybody else suck), masking and deindividualisation.

Natalie (Nat)- themes of love, family values, caring for others, a protected life (vs a life the 2 guys live), the definition of good and bad (objectivity and subjectivity), using emotions as a way of living etc.

Well, i can see a link btw Plot idea 1 and Nat. on the theme of family and values- and i really like how the 3 characters compliment each other. Dejengski would definitely need some love of Nat into his life, Nat would need to know that the world is not just black and white good and bad, (is Jake a bad person?? I think he could have his good pts too), and Jake would find out that sometimes a spade is not always a spade, but can be bent by reason and logic, as exemplified by Dejengski again.

Therefore, we currently have stong themes. These themes also bring about many questions that people think about, and if it is really done well, i think it can be as powerful as the matrix or any other thinking story, on the other hand, there is always enough room for drama and some light action sequence. I believe that the best lies somewhere between the both worlds....

Cheers.

Plot idea #1

Plot idea--

alright, i've got inspired by the Father's Day telemovie that i caught recently on TV, so here goes.

A tale of two brothers. The elder one, hates, resents, loathes, despises his father for divorcing with his natural mother and re-marrying another one because of business matters. Hates the new mother despite everything she does to make him accept her; even making him the CEO of the family business that the father runs. The younger one, who just wants the family to be together, despite the elder brother's attitude towards the father, his mother and he himself. Doesn't mind with the fact that he plays second fiddle to his step-brother in the company, when in reality, he's the one that's more capable, more able to run the family business. After years of painful struggle, the father, now old, gets struck with a fatal illness- he has only one wish: to see the elder son for one, last, final goodbye. Would he get his wish?

Modifications??

Plot- a story revolved around friends with multiple point of views? or a single walkthrough from a protagonist's point of view?

Well, personally I have been writting POV stories for a very long time, always splitting up different segments of the story with the familar three symbols

***

while i think they can still be utilised for this project, but if we were to have like 4-5 characters, it will be kinda hard to juggle between the characters and yet mantain a stong plotline.

I'm suggesting perhaps we choose 2 more major characters out of the lot? we make the 2 of them progress towards each other, while the other characters seek to supplement the main characters tgt and stuff.

Jake can be kept, i'll see if the other character can be tweaked.... i am thinking of a girl now, relly opp of jake, but as in a very good girl kinda of persona different. I would like to bring much of society today through her eyes- the good, the ideal and the real; her parents teachings of being clean and obedient, with the real world of dirt and grittiness (of jake, and Dejengski)

I think i would keep Dejengski, but i'll put him in a slightly minor character- i'll not give any 3rd person perspective on him, but narrate his warped thoughts 1st person in italics.

Do comment on this post your thoughts, if there is any slight disagreement, just shoot. It beats putting up a smiling front and losing interest along the way, yeah?

Dejengski- an overview

Tommy- a boy who grew up hating the world, beginning right from his very own name. Silent, sullen and withdrawn, he has taken to an idealistic substitution of the things he resents in life, preferring to dwell in his world of violent escapism than to confront upfront with reality. While he tolerates physical bullying and other injustices unto him, mainly from his parents, he retaliates with a cruel and unusual psychological warfare that usually ends his perpetrators in various states of loss. A boy warped with reason, and against emotion, and yet a pitiful soul in need of love. Dejengski was what he called himself- a name of self association, a mask of lovelessness, and that one foil of his ultimate undoing.

Jake- a simple introduction

Jake- the glamour kid, the one who craves for everything and anything materialistic in life. Stays in a semi-detached bungalow in a prime district, has his own room complete with a walk-in wardrobe with all the branded clothings, a perfume rack with brands ranging from Hugo Boss to Emporio Armani. Takes half an hour to style his hari every morning, using a recipe of two parts styling wax, one part styling clay, a smattering of hair mud, and a few snozzles of hair spray to finish it off. Dresses immaculately- never caught wearing the same piece of clothing twice; outgoing personality and has a tribal designed tattoo on his right bicep, which he always shows off during his gyming sessions at the down town gym. Attracts attention and loves it- attention, to him, is always good, always make him get 'high', and more often than not, is always never enough for him.
